HAND-CUT HEIRLOOM-QUALITY KETUBAHS

One of my favorite things to make are ketubahs. These special pieces incorporate shared moments and special bonds between partners, weaving your two lives together into one.
Just like a relationship, a papercut's strength is built on connection - each element is connected to the rest, creating a filigree that looks delicate, but is surprising resilient. Like a relationship, those connections are what keeps the entire thing holding together.
While I create the piece, I meditate and concentrate on the couple, infusing each snip with thoughts of love, strength, longevity, health, joy, and peace. It's truly a special process, both for the artist and for the recipients.
CALLIGRAPHY:
To create the contract, I work with your calligrapher (or with mine) to create the central document. Once we have those dimensions in place, I work with the couple to create a perfectly unique frame that surrounds the contract and honors your love and commitment to one another.
STYLES:
Because these are made to your specifications, I can work with nearly any size or shape.
The sample above is a modified circle, symbolizing eternity, unity, and everlasting love. The design is based on a concept by Caldecott Award-winning author/illustrator and screenwriter Brian Selznick, who commissioned this ketubah as a wedding gift for his nephew. Working from photographs and lists of things that the couple cherish in their relationship, I brought the design to life, incorporating the couple at the top, their beloved dogs at the bottom, the groom's hometown on the left, and the bride's hometown on the right. These core anchors are connected by a lush garden, symbolizing the nurturing spirit it takes to feed a marriage and help it grow, along with special symbols of the couple's faith, including pomegranates, birds, flowers, Stars of David, and books with words in Hebrew highlighting the their shared foundational values.
COST:
These are truly one-of-a-kind heirloom pieces, not laser-cut replicas, like you'll find on other sites. No one in the world has your love story... and no one else in the world will have your exact ketubah.
Finished pieces generally range from $6,000 - $9,000, depending on size and intricacy, but please reach out no matter your budget and we can discuss options.
SHIPPING / FRAMING:
Ketubahs are generally shipped unframed, as the couple and the witnesses will need to sign them following the ceremony. ΩI can also anchor the ketubah to a mat background to make it easier to display and frame. A cut piece of plexiglass can also be included to protect the piece while on display during the ceremony. The shipping and handling fee is part of the overall budget for the piece.
